Less than a half of a century has passed since the development of the first CAD system for roads, but this fact has already become a history. It is very important that now we can know from the first hand of creators about that times as well as their vision of a current CAD systems development. In this issue we invite one of the founders of domestic CAD systems for roads — Grigory Fedotov, Head of the Chair of geodesy and geoinformatics of State Technical University MADI. It is noteworthy, that his manual about CAD systems for roads, published in 1986, still remains a basic one for training road engineers not only in Russia but also in some other countries.
