Evolution of GIS for roads

The articles gives a short historical review of formation of geographical informational systems (GIS), discusses current position of GIS in Russia, and gives some assumptions about the future. Authors describes the experience of implementation of GIS for roads at the federal level: from using at single departments to implementation of new redesigned automated road data bank ABDD "Doroga".
